The usual problems

When a home needs its own electricity bill

A single DISCOM bill is fine until someone else lives on a circuit you pay for.

  • One Electricity Bill Covers the Whole House

One Electricity Bill Covers the Whole House

A single utility bill cannot show how much electricity your family uses versus a rented floor.

  • Unexpected Electricity Usage Goes Unnoticed

    Unexpected Electricity Usage Goes Unnoticed

An AC or water heater left running can increase consumption without you noticing until later.

  • Tenant Electricity Payments Get Delayed

    Tenant Electricity Payments Get Delayed

When tenants pay electricity charges with next month’s rent, unpaid balances can accumulate.

  • A Smart Meter Cannot Split One Connection

A Smart Meter Cannot Split One Connection

The main electricity meter records total household usage, not separate consumption for each floor.

  • One Bill, No Clear Usage Split

One Bill, No Clear Usage Split

A single electricity bill makes it hard to distinguish the owner’s consumption from the tenant’s usage.

  • Electricity Spikes Show Up Too Late

Electricity Spikes Show Up Too Late

Without timely consumption monitoring, unusual increases may go unnoticed until the next bill arrives.

Challenges

One home electricity bill can mean different things to each person

Owners need to split costs, tenants want to verify their usage, and families need to understand where electricity is being consumed.

Owner

One Electricity Bill Covers the Whole House

When the owner and tenant share one utility connection, separating consumption and recovering the right electricity charges becomes difficult.

  • One Connection Covers Two Households

The main meter cannot separate the owner’s electricity use from the tenant’s.

  • Unexpected Electricity Usage Goes Unnoticed

An AC or heater left running may increase consumption before the next bill.

  • Delayed Tenant Payments Increase Dues

When electricity charges are added to next month’s rent, unpaid balances grow.

Tenant

Tenants Cannot Verify Their Electricity Charges

Tenants sharing a utility connection with the owner need clear consumption records to understand their bills and avoid disputes over electricity costs.

  • No Separate Record of Tenant Usage

The tenant’s electricity consumption is included in the household total.

  • Electricity Charges Are Hard to Verify

Tenants receive an amount without clear records of their actual consumption.

  • Rent and Electricity Payments Get Mixed

Combining rent and electricity dues makes balances harder to track and settle.

Household

Unexpected Electricity Spikes Go Unnoticed

A single household reading hides which appliances or areas drive consumption, making unusual increases difficult to identify promptly.

  • One Meter Covers the Whole Household

The utility meter records total consumption without separating individual loads.

  • Unusual Electricity Spikes Go Unnoticed

Unexpected consumption may go unnoticed until the next bill arrives.

  • Upstairs and Downstairs Share One Reading

Separate floors cannot be compared when all consumption appears in one total.

The ideal run

How Home & Rented Floor Electricity Billing Should Work?

A clear process to separate owner and tenant electricity usage, calculate each floor’s charges, and identify unusual consumption early.

  1. 1

Track Electricity Usage On Each Floor Separately

Measure the rented floor’s electricity independently from the owner’s portion, so both have clear usage records instead of relying on one house bill.

  2. 2

    Calculate Tenant Electricity Charges Transparently

Use floor-wise meter readings and the applicable tariff to calculate the tenant’s actual electricity charges, rather than splitting the total house bill.

  3. 3

Identify Unusual Household Electricity Usage Early

Monitor consumption to spot unexpected spikes from appliances such as ACs or heaters, and compare usage between upstairs and downstairs.

What Should You Do?

Separate Home and Tenant Electricity Bills With Qube

When an owner and tenant share one electricity connection, the bill rarely tells the full story. Qube lets you meter each floor or living space separately, so everyone can see their usage instead of arguing over a split.

  • A meter connected to a room, an air conditioner, and a light

Put Smart Submeters On Each Rental & Shared Spaces

Know how much electricity each room or space uses. Keep tenant consumption separate from common areas instead of splitting one utility bill.

  • Prepaid and postpaid billing on a phone and a bill

Choose Relevant Billing Mode, Prepaid Or Postpaid

Let tenants recharge before using electricity, or bill long-stay residents and departments later. Run both billing methods on the same platform.

  • Usage charts on a laptop and a phone

Manage Readings, Recharges, Balances, And Usage Records in One Place

See electricity usage, outstanding balances, and collections on one dashboard. Spend less time updating spreadsheets and reconciling records.

  • Power staying on at night, on weekends, and on holidays

Keep Power On During Nights, Weekends, And Holidays

Set Happy Hours, Happy Days, and Happy Weeks to prevent automatic power cut-offs during selected nights, weekends, and holidays—even when the balance is low.

  • A recharge that still collects the balance on the meter

Record Every Electricity Unit, Even When Payment Is Pending

Scheduled grace periods do not wipe out electricity dues. Usage remains recorded, and outstanding amounts can be collected through the next recharge.

  • The owner, the desk, and the tenant seeing the same usage & recharge records

Give Everyone the Same View of Electricity Usage & Recharges Transparently

Owners, property staff, and tenants can refer to the same usage records. Fewer spreadsheets, fewer conflicting numbers, and clearer billing discussions.

  1. 01

Monitor electricity usage without waiting for the DISCOM bill

  2. 02

Bill tenants for their own floor instead of the entire house

And many more

Other features for home electricity billing

  • Floor electricity billing continues if WiFi drops

On-device billing keeps that circuit going without internet, and cuts power at zero balance.

  • An alert the day electricity use is high

A low balance, a recharge, or a heater left on shows up that day, not on the next utility bill.

  • The tenant sees what to recharge

Balance forecast uses the floor’s pattern, so the top-up is not a guess inside the rent.

  • Share the floor reading

Send that circuit’s usage and history with a link when the amount is questioned.

  • A ₹/unit for that floor

Match the utility rate, or the rate in the rent agreement. One circuit does not need a building tariff sheet.

  • It uses the house WiFi

The meter joins the network already in the house. There is no new wiring for the reading to travel.

  • Electricity readings stay saved if WiFi drops

Hourly usage stays on the meter and syncs when the house network is back.

  • See the floor’s electricity use

Usage on that circuit shows what ran, before the utility message arrives for the whole house.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find the right answer here? Visit our FAQ

Do I need this if I already have a DISCOM smart meter?

The utility meter bills the whole service. Qube is a sub-meter for a circuit you want to see or collect on — a rented floor, a workshop, or a home you want to watch live.

Can I buy just one meter?

Yes. Buy Now on Store for a single-phase meter. Pricing lists current store prices including GST and shipping.

Is this the same as a PG system?

Same hardware. A PG page is for many rooms, parent recharge, and staff. This page is for one home or one rental floor.

Who installs it?

A licensed electrician on the circuit you choose. The Qube One installation guide walks through the meter steps. For a full building, use the PG or campus pages instead.

Which submeter fits my building?

Start at the meter matcher. It asks how you bill and how power reaches the building, then names the meter. Most people finish in about two minutes.

Do I need a large order to test Qube?

Start with 1, 2, or 3 meters from our store and test Qube on a real circuit. Your platform fee is waived for the first 45 days, so you can experience the platform, track actual results, and see the impact before scaling.Need more meters?
